Cleveland, OH- - - The results of September 14, 2021, Primary Election in Cleveland’s Ward 11 mean that Michael Hardy shall move on to the General Election to face the appointed incumbent (and former Brook Park City Councilman and Lakewood City Precinct Committee Member), Brian Mooney. Michael Hardy, an educator and Ward 11 Precinct Committee Member finished second in the three-candidate race on September 14 and now faces Mooney in the November 2 General election.
In the Primary, Hardy, an early supporter of public comment and community engagement, ran a campaign that emphasized the need to Reimagine the City, modernize the economy, and improve the city’s services, safety, and justice with a focus on youth achievement and success.
“There is a lot to address in our wonderful Ward (Ward 11),” Hardy says. “I believe we can achieve great success, and I have a plan…a Hardy Plan which addresses the needs of the area.”
Some other items on Hardy’s agenda include addressing food deserts and transportation issues and engaging the community on how the incoming-Covid funds (the $514 million-dollar package) are allocated.
“In addition to street repairs, tree trimming, and social programs, we have to look long-term. To do this, we must reimagine education and job training, as well as economic development and job opportunities,” Hardy says. “We must join our peer cities which have already done this. We can’t be left behind again.”
Hardy indicated that he is grateful for all the support he received in the primary election. He hopes that support is evidence of a positive change in Cleveland politics, where good policies and ideas will move the Ward (and the City) forward for the benefit of all.
“It’s not about power and position,” Hardy says. “It’s about serving the community and advocating for policies that positively impact the area for the good of everyone.”
Donna Woods, who came in third, was congratulated by Hardy. He praised her for running a campaign that spoke to the issues.
“Combined, our campaigns (Woods’ and mine) pulled in over 54% of the vote,” Hardy says. “This shows that people are seeking change, and that’s what we plan to do…by implementing the Hardy Plan. It moves the Ward forward. I believe we can do better, and we will do better. You will start seeing some changes immediately. I talk about some of this on the website and on the Facebook page.
